The letter of invitation is very important, Girls of some nationalities have to receive the letter before they can be issued with a visa. The letter has to be extremely precise, detaling hours of work, amount of pocket money, days off, free time, English classes, and the fact that she will have her own bedroom. If the overseas embassay for one minute think that you are inviting someone over for slave labour, the visa will be refused, and sometimes the girl can’t apply for another one for 6 months. The letter must be written well in
advance as the girl cant even book an appointment at the embassay without it, and this may be a few weeks ahead. These stringent rules apply to eastern european countries and Turkey. Applicants from the european union, do not of course need a visa and although they do not have to have a letter, We think it is important that you stil write one.
Your future Au Pair will have all your basic details, including the number of children in the family, where you live and what you do. You will have also have already had your chat on the phone which was probably rather stifled. Now is your chance within this letter to really go into detail about what you expect of your new au pair. The more information she has before arrivial, the smoother the path. Give her a rough outline of her duties, somebackground on you and your family, your hobbies and interests
